The Vision of EDCBuild: Bringing RPG EDC System Into Real Life

I’ve been thinking about everyday carry for a long time. Long enough to notice something that’s been bothering me: the EDC world is dominated by knives, guns, and the “weapon side” of carrying. And look, I get it—those items are cool, they’re fun to collect, and they absolutely have their place.

But they aren’t the whole picture. Not even close.

There are so many other things people carry every single day that matter just as much—sometimes more. Things that don’t fit in your pockets. Things that don’t look tactical. Things that still make you more capable and confident in your daily life.

And that’s really why I wanted to start this website.

I kept coming back to something familiar: video games. Especially RPGs. When you build a character in a game, you don’t just pick a weapon and call it a day. You fill out gear slots. You customize everything — from armor, to rings, to helmets and boots — and each slot helps shape your character into someone who can handle the challenges ahead.

One day it hit me: We could think about real life the same way.

Instead of obsessing only over what goes in your pockets, what if we looked at all the “inventory slots” a real person has? What if everyday carry was less about tactical bravado and more about preparing yourself to move through life confidently and efficiently?

That’s what EDCBuild is built on.

To me, EDC is about:

  • Feeling prepared for the situations you actually face

  • Building confidence through capability

  • Expanding beyond just knives and weapons

  • Seeing everyday items as functional “gear slots”

  • Making your life run smoother, not heavier

There’s something incredibly reassuring about knowing you have what you need, when you need it—whether that’s a pen, a bottle opener, a small knife, a backpack that fits your day, or just a system that makes sense to you.

So this site is my way of taking the RPG mindset—those familiar inventory grids and character builds—and bringing that clarity into real‑world everyday carry. Not to make life more complicated, but to make it simpler. More intentional. More personal.

Here’s to preparation. Here’s to confidence. Here’s to building the everyday carry loadout that actually fits your life.
